Tips to help you select the best Debt Settlement Company

Tips to help you select the best Debt Settlement Company

If you are considering using debt settlement to help you pay your credit card, here are a couple of tips that are going to help you choose a company to help you.

Remember that hiring a debt settlement company is no different than hiring any company to perform a service for you – so be sure to find the one that best suits your needs. Not all debt settlement companies are the same. As with any industry there are good ones and there is rest. It’s going to be up to you to select the one that is going to offer the best service at the lowest price.

Unfortunately, when it comes to settlement credit card debt, you often hear more stories about people who complain and not about those who receive a good service (and there are many who do that).

How do you decide which option the company will offer you the best service?

When hiring a settlement company, you should contact at least 2-3 different debt settlement companies and compare the services and terms they offer. Not only will you find the best company to represent you, but you will learn a lot about how debt settlement works and how it can help you. Debt settlement is different than debt consolidation. However there are some debt consolidation companies that are also offering debt settlement services.

Check their BBB ratings

Although not everyone with a complaint, contacts the Better Business Bureau (so a clean record can be misleading) if there are several unresolved complaints, there is a “red flag” to find out why there are dissatisfied customers. If the complaint is resolved, it is a good sign that the debt settlement company offers good customer service and they do care about all their customers. You can search for company records online at www.BBB.org.

Check references

While debt relief is a confidential process, and therefore you cannot find many companies willing to give out the names of satisfied customers, it is worth asking. To speak with a former customer will tell you more about a company than any brochure or website. You can also find plenty of information about debt settlement companies at the debt related blogs and forums.
